“Two friends follow their dream of creating a sketch show, but as the night goes on they realise their dreams might be a little out of reach. It’s comedy, it’s burlesque, it’s slap stick, it’s Sweaty Pits’ debut show, it’s harder than they thought. A sketch show for those who question what they are doing with their lives and then do it anyway.”
Sam About Town was curious to find out more! Luckily co-creators Frankie McNair and Miriam Slater were happy to oblige.
SAT: Welcome to Adelaide Fringe! Excited?
SP: Excited?! Adelaide Fringe has late night churros, rides, and some of the best performers in the country! You better believe we are excited! CHURROS!
SAT: You wrote your first sketch together in 2016 and have been developing ideas since. Can you tell us more about this show and what inspired you to write it?
SP: This show is an absurd, silly, self reflection on what happens when you riff with your best friend too hard and two years later you are somehow holding an hour long show in your hot little hands. How did we get here? We don’t know. But thank you for having us. The actual show is made up of our favourite sketches and leads to us questioning if what we love doing is valid enough to peruse it with as much vigour as we currently are. It’s heaps meta.

Don’t be fooled by the name of this Fringe show, because Steve Chang‘s show A Complete Waste of Time will take its audience on an “introspective journey”, where they can explore the meaning of life. Using the art of stand-up comedy and storytelling, audience members are encouraged to walk into the show with a (very) open mind, as they experience little snippets of Chang’s life and be entertained for 55 minutes, which will be equal parts hilarious and intriguing.

Meet NYC writer and performer John Koladziej, who is coming to Fringe, after performing sold out shows in New York and Los Angeles, it’s time for Adelaide to join John , as he takes us on a Parisian journey around Edith Piaf’s time.
With a unique component of his cabaret show Johnny en Rose: Songs of the Little Sparrow is being performed in English and French, Koladziej’s show revolves around a “young boy’s coming-of-age through the chansons of the famed chanteuse”.
John Gabriel Koladziej is a writer/performer based in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Originally from the Los Angeles area, he first came to New York to study theatre at the Stella Adler Conservatory at NYU. “I returned to LA, shortly after 9/11, and found myself doing a lot of theatre there. However, I’ve been back in New York for a while now, having landed a job at a Manhattan ad agency, and have really been enjoying the cabaret world in the past few years. ” johnny said.
Adelaide-based accordionist Paula Mazzocco, joins on stage for this next installation of “Johnny en Rose: Songs of the Little Sparrow.”

Adelaide’s West End will now have its own performance and special events hub all year round at the iconic A-Club on Waymouth St. The two powerhouse teams of Call this Guy, and The A–Club have joined forces to redefine the space and create a diverse and dynamic range of events in the lead up to releasing its own programming for the 2019 Adelaide Fringe season.
Kerry Marsh (Call This Guy) has had huge success producing award-winning events in the past and with this experience is looking to expand the A-Club into a premium Fringe and performance venue. “The A-Club is such an amazing space, I stumbled across it when creating the Epic Samba street party in Eliza street, it’s such a hidden gem, beautiful spaces for patrons to chill or get up close and be a part of the action, enjoy a food service with true and accessible fare, a funky bar space and has Adelaide’s cheapest and best cocktails. Seriously, what’s not to love here?” says Marsh.
Not only will the A-Club continue to provide spaces for birthdays and corporate functions but it will also be reconfigured to suit anything from cabaret-style seating, to theatre, comedy, poetry or even live dance and band performances.
The venues first few events are set to be huge, with something for everyone. First cab off the rank from this dynamic duo will be Adelaide Fringe favourite Tash York with her award-winning sell-out show “Adulting”. The following month will see local Adelaide singer Carla Mattiazzo with her show “That’s Life”. Other performances with dates confirmed include burlesque variety show sensation “The After Hours Cabaret Club” and “Zouk Nacao”, an epic night of Latin dance flavours.
With a range of top talent looking for space at this year’s Fringe, The A-Club is going to be a shining space for artists and audiences alike – but now all year round!

That’s Life is a stunningly honest and intriguing work of cabaret-theatre that holds the events that followed their disappearance under the magnifying glass. Carla guides the audience through the subsequent months of enquiry and discovery of her family story, with poignancy and agency.Director: Vince Fusco
